Story and Gameplay
Like every The Sims game, the story behind the World Adventures Expansion is whatever you want to make of it, but in this case within the realm of international travel. And why not, since what sim doesn't need a vacation. Players choose from environments set Egypt, France or China, with the possibility of others via download. Similarly, gameplay follows the same well-worn path familiar to veteranThe Sims players, and easy to pick up for those coming to the franchise for the first time. Players create their sims as they like, customizing everything from physical characteristics, all the way down to personality traits, habits, etc. They can mix with other sims, build relationships, start families and even die. Because this expansion is based around travel, your sims can also discover rich, new cultures, develop brand-new skills and abilities and explore and adventure through realistic environments. New skills related to these destinations include photography, martial arts, and nectar making (a sim beverage) among others. As part of of the exotic locales available, sims can get adventurous and explore the caves and tombs of Egypt and China. Here they will put their new adventure related abilities to work as they participate in Indiana Jones like adventures full of excitement and even danger, including some not-so friendly mummies and the Grim Reaper.

Unique Simlish Soundtrack
Just as with travel, every sim has his/her particular musical tastes. With that in mind the World Adventures Expansion Pack features an all-star soundtrack of real songs, recorded by the original artists in the sims native tongue of Simlish. These tracks include:

3 out of 5 stars Short & Sweet Review   July 13, 2010
Nichole (Edinburgh, UK)
Many others have gone into details, both bad and good, about this game, so I'll let you look elsewhere for those.

I just bought my game a little under a month ago (fortunately, it sounds like!), since it was on sale at Amazon.com. I had no problems installing or running it (I use a Mac), it seems to work just fine. I do think it's a bit strange that they've taken the game into an RPG direction, with actual quests to accept, objectives to be achieved, and puzzles to solve. I feel like I'm playing an RPG meant for children, it's a bit disconcerting. I know the rewards you get during such adventures can make a difference in the "normal" lives of your Sims (learn certain recipes, collect artwork for your home, etc), but the methods for obtaining these things... not really sure I like that! If I wanted to play an RPG, World Adventures would not be first on my list.

That being said, I'd still buy it. It's better than having NO expansion and repeatedly doing the same thing. It's not a terrible addition to the game, just a little too different from what I was looking for. I'm still hoping for Pets and College and Nightlife.. Sims 3 style!

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad But I Got it For Free So . . .   June 21, 2010
The Lovely Miss N (New Jersey)
I called EA about a problem I was having with the Ambitions expansion pack. The guy was very helpful and it didn't take long to resolve my issue. As a bonus, he gave me a coupon sent via email for World Ambitions (which he explained should have been installed BEFORE Ambitions but I don't buy every expansion pack all the time). Anyway, the coupon was for $[...] and as of Friday when I logged on to EA's website and bought it, it was $[...] so I paid nothing for it. I had no intentions of buying it, so getting it free was worth the exploration.

Well, I played all weekend and so far I've only explored France. The few adventures I've had haven't been very difficult; just enough fun to keep the game interesting. I did hit one "glitch" when I entered a tomb and couldn't figure out how why I was supposed to slide some statues around, but after about 10 minutes, I figured that out. Since the Sim I was playing is an Angler, I caught some frogs to take home with me so I can now make frog legs for dinner. I just throw one in the Omni plant to keep from having to return to get more.

I agree that the cities could be a bit more populated but then again, when a vacation starts out at 3 days, you don't have a lot of time to meet people if you're exploring adventures to get coins and VISA points.

I give the expansion two thumbs up but only 3 stars for now because I have to play some more to say whether I love it or not. But for free, I like it enough.

1 out of 5 stars Boring   June 19, 2010

I baught this game thinking that it was going to be a lot of fun.The problem is, is that this game is not made my the same creator as the sims, and the Sims 2 was made by. So i just think that the new creator really ruined the whole Sims thing.

4 out of 5 stars A first for The Sims series   June 17, 2010
A. Hatman (Kentucky)
I purchased this after reading all sorts of bad reviews on this expansion pack. Glitches, bugs, and problems were supposedly everywhere. I purchased it anyways hoping to have no problems. AND I DIDN'T. I've not once had any glitches or bugs come up because of this expansion.

New Features I like:
Traveling! I love being able to travel to China and Egypt and France and the new skills you can learn in those areas.
Tombs! I LOVE LOVE LOVE exploring the tombs and solving the mysteries. Having to have a tent and the food morsels adds to the adventure of it all.
Calling overseas! I like the fact that you can now make long distance phone calls and invite foreign friends to stay for a few days.

Cons:
I would have liked to see more traits added with the expansion pack. A few were added, but not nearly as much as I would have liked.
More job careers. My one grievance with the game in general is there's not enough options for careers. I would like to see many more added.

Overall I would recommend anyone who plays The Sims 3 to invest in this expansion pack.

5 out of 5 stars Great Overall, but maybe not for everyone   June 14, 2010

I bought this game a while ago, and really love it. However, if you are into instant gratification or are not very patient, you will not like a lot of the adventure game play. The most fun parts of the game are the adventures, in my opinion. They're like fun, intricate puzzles. If you don't like that sort of thing, there are a other things the EP offers that are pretty cool too. There are a few new skills, like martial arts, photography, and wine (or nectar) making, along with others. There are plenty of cool people in any of the three new locations. There are new plants to grow and new recipes to learn.
Overall, this game is great. There are a few glitches and bugs, but none of these have caused any real problems. In a sarcophagus I assembled in my home, I summoned a mummy, not knowing it would become part of my family. I deleted it using the "moveobjects" cheat, and now it appears that it is still part of my family. Not devastating, but annoying. I really love the adventures. Although this was pretty expensive, it was totally worth it for me, and I would recommend it.
