Five Revealing Snake TalesAt a running time of 30 minutes, Metal Gear Saga features five chapters, one for each of the critically acclaimed adventures of Solid Snake:Chapter Game Title Setting (Year) CHAPTER 001 METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER 1964 CHAPTER 002 METAL GEAR 1994-1995 CHAPTER 003 METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE 1999 CHAPTER 004 METAL GEAR SOLID 2005 CHAPTER 005 METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY 2007-20XX Created by KOJIMA PRODUCTIONSProduced by Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Saga features dynamic voiceover work by Jack N. Merluzzi, who also provides narration for the Snake Eater movie to be included with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.* Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima also appears in a series of candid interviews, recounting the origins of the series and sharing its secrets, such as the original setting of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, his thoughts on the infamous NES game Snakes Revenge, and what gamers can look forward to in the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 4.

2 out of 5 stars This Really is a Poorly Made Program, Fans Will Be Angry   June 23, 2006

Metal Gear Saga Vol. 1 is a special-edition DVD gift for fans who pre-order Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for its release in North America. Its really unfortunate the the quaility of this product isn't that great. Throughout the footage is a "display" that tells what game is currently being shown, and it never dissapears, which makes this program feel kinda cheap. The whole thing is also subtitled -- even though this disc was made specifically for the USA, and aside from the interveiw segments, evrything is in spoken English. You can't turn them off!

Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima also appears in a series of interviews, recounting the origins of the series and sharing its secrets, which can sometimes be interesting -- but most fans will already know most of the details. The interviews are really the best part, especially his thoughts on the infamous NES game "Snake's Revenge." Other than that, the games are discussed in historical order, not the order they were created, which might seem interesting but really ruins the steady evolution of complexity that the series makes over the decades. To be honest, the G4 show about the Metal Gear series (on "Game Makers") is much better than this. Please don't buy this for aninflated price of $10-20, the content really isn't worth it. Hardcore MGS fans might still want it part of their collection just so they can say they have everything -- but there's no reason otherwise.
