Squeaky! September 11, 2008 John B. Goode (Seattle, WA) Pros: 1) Rechargeable battery (or a con) 2) Small frets for kids 3) Suitable for Rock Band and Guitar Hero
Cons: 1) Strum bar noisy, squeaky and cheap. 2) Cheap looking
This guitar is not as well made as the OEM one, but I like the rechargeable battery, and so far it has worked very well, and all the buttons are in working order, unlike many aftermarket guitars. The small frets are really great for small kids, in fact, it's a must have feature for them.
The biggest problem is the strum bar. It's noisy and squeaky. One of the reviewers here mentioned taking the guitar apart to lube it. I took the back off, but found that it's not necessary to do so. There are like 9 screws, so it's a PITA to take them all off, and in fact you don't need to do so. You can just lube from the front. Just lube the small space between the strum bar and the body. Lubing it will get rid of the squeak, but it's still noisy.
After three months the rechargeable battery stopped working, but that was OK as I just kept the cable hooked on. You just want to make sure that you keep the jumping and dancing to a minimum as the connection will fly right off if you try to spin the guitar over your head. The whammy bar stopped working for a while at about the same time, but it's now working again.
I think Dreamgear could have spent a few bucks more to make it look better, like chrome the tuning keys or provide a decal sheet, but that's something I can do myself. Funny enough, even though the OEM guitar is better made I like playing this one more now.
I like it and would buy it again except for the rechargeable battery. Just make 'em to use with dry batteries just like everyone else.
The name says it all! August 10, 2008 muzikjunkie (Planet Granite USA) Excellent guitar! While this is the first one I've actually owned, it's not the first one I've ever used. I like it much better than the one that comes with the guitar hero games. I like the smaller set of buttons..they're great if you have shorter fingers, and you can play for a long time without having to recharge the battery. Plus it looks way cool! Definitely 2 thumbs up!!
Best Aftermarket GH Guitar February 26, 2008 Gil Velez (Morris Plains, NJ United States) Just received this sucker yesterday and it lives up to all the hype. Charges quickly, long battery life, excellent accuracy, nice size, and great finish with glowing strum bar!!
Same comment as others, strum bar is a little loud and squeaky. Gonna try the WD40 to ease the noise tonight but otherwise super pleased and the best of 3 (Kramer, Psyclone, and DreamGear) that I've tried!!
4/5 stars easily just because its a bit noisy!
Great wired/wireless controller for GH 1, 2, & 3 February 21, 2008 B. Aragon (USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wanted to have two wireless controllers for my niece's GH2 so I originally purchased two of the same one (the red octane white wireless controller). One worked great the other never received a signal. After returning the bad one, I thought I would try this one out. I loved the fact that it was wired and wireless, so I figured I could use it either way. I connected it, and it was charged within 15 minutes (while I was playing). I unplugged it and kept playing away. No problems. Both button sets work great and the glowing strum bar is cool. The strum bar is a little loud and sounds squeaky (and it can start to aggravate you if you let it), but it works great. "Star power" works quickly and easily every time. My niece has to shake the other guitar but this one, a simple lift and power away. I've had it now for several weeks without any problems. And...it's compatible with GH3 as well.
Don't Let the Looks Fool You! February 12, 2008 ScotE2HotE (Portsmouth, NH United States) Wireless Guitar Controller for PlayStation 2 This guitar does look good but that's where it all ends. The "light up" strum bar is a great idea but it does not work smoothly & the squeeking will drive you up the wall. Yeah it can be taken apart & lubed with some lithium grease to quiet it down...but hey it's suppossed to be ready to "ROCK"! Also the fret buttons are way hard to push so after a half dozen songs you're ready to throw it to the curb! I would not recommend this guitar unless you're handy & can make modifications yourself. Definitely needs "tweaking" to make it any good.
