Product Description War Of The Monsters is an all-out 3D action game where you get to beat up on everyone and everything around you -- you're a hundred-foot monster destroying cities to prove your supremacy! Multiple game modes, great graphics and a fun sci-fi story -- all that plus massive destruction as you try to win the War Of The Monsters!
Amazon.com At first look, it's easy to get excited about War of the Monsters--it has colossal mutated beasts fighting each other in various dreary cityscapes, and it's all wrapped in the campy confines of '50s sci-fi and horror flicks. But after a few go-rounds, the game's frustrating controls and limited replay value may leave you feeling flat. As the game's background story goes, the monsters were spawned from radiation spilled from downed UFOs that were thwarted in their plans to take over Earth. Cities everywhere are now powerless to stop the rampaging savages, which include a King Kong rip-off named Congar and the Godzilla-inspired Togera, to name just two. The game is all about the thrill of bashing the other guy senseless in an unrelenting rampage that would leave city planners everywhere quivering in fear. The fighting is fierce and brutal--monsters are sent hurtling through the air with a variety of multi-hit combos; entire buildings are crumbled by either throwing your opponent into them or by an errant punch; cars, buses, radio antennae, steel pipes, and other objects are picked up and thrust into monster flesh. One can even hear the sound of tiny human bodies being squished underfoot. Unfortunately, War of the Monsters seems to have a mind of its own at times since monsters are inexplicably difficult to control. Things are swell one moment as you're zeroing in for the kill but the next you're swaying side to side like a punch-drunk fool. The controls are frustratingly unresponsive when your monster gets stuck in a corner or pinned against a wall. And be prepared to hit the reset button several times, as the game tends to freeze quite often when paused. --Larry White Pros: - Satisfyingly brutal fighting action
- Well-done look and feel
Cons: - Unresponsive controls
- Limited replay value
- Fights devolve into button-mashing frenzy

Best fighting game I've played June 13, 2008 This is the greatest fighting game that I have played. I first played it at a relative's house and fell in love. The array of characters is fantastic, each one having their own unique qualities. I love the variety of environments, each one having different gameplay opportunities. The only thing that I had a problem with were the mini-games. They lacked purpose and are pretty one-sided. The Big-shot one is also very hard to understand; however, they are fun just as a little break from the large amounts of action the rest of the game provides. I especially like the two-player mode. It is a great way to spend time with a friend, and it runs very smoothly, combining you onto one screen for close combat. Don't listen to the reviews that say it comes down to smashing buttons. You actually have to think to win a fight. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not a strategy game, but you do have to plan, should you run, hide, punch, throw something, use your special attack? It is a really well rounded game. My main issue is that the adventure mode is very short and easy to beat;however, it may be harder on levels other than easy. (I just now learned there were other levels.) Overall, I loved this game and would recommend it to anyone who wants a well rounded, fun, and unique fighting game.
Freakin' Awesome Game!!! January 27, 2008 This game is so awesome!!! I "borrowed" it from my friend and he couldn't force me to give it back for over half a year! My favorite is the praying mantis dude. I like insects so I got instantly interested in him. It may be short, but you can still try to beet the game with every character to see how they were created, wich takes a while (I was never able to beet it with the lava guy).
Awesome fun! January 1, 2008 Barbara J. Goodwin My son loved it. Non stop fun for him and his friends! Quick shipping, product in excellent condition!
One of my favorite PS2 games! August 28, 2007 J. Powell (NJ) War of the Monsters is one of my favorite games for the PS2! Anyone who enjoyed watching monster movies on Saturday afternoon will love it. It is incredibly fun in one- and two-person modes and the destructible environments add tremendously to the game play. How often do you get to knock a building over as an attack on you opponent?!
My biggest gripe with War of the Monsters is the lack of online gameplay and the limited selection of monsters you get to play. To be fair, War of the Monsters came out before Sony had their online capabilities in full swing. It's a shame though, because with online gameplay War of the Monsters could have really been one of the best games for the platform.
Nonetheless, War of the Monsters packs a monster punch!!
Monster play time May 17, 2007 Jeannette M. Beck (Bernville, PA USA) Son enjoys this game because he can be a monster and destroy things without getting in trouble...
