2 out of 5 stars Firmware Concerns   December 2, 2008

I'm rating this a two because the number of system software updates far exceeds that of any product I have thus encountered. It seems like every week you can not play online until you go through yet another software update which is about a 10-15 minute process.

It appears that Sony has literally no firmware release strategy and as a customer it is extraordinarily annoying and quite frankly not acceptable.

4 out of 5 stars I Have One Warning   December 1, 2008

Plenty of reviews have been written about the PS3. I'm not going to bore you with another review. I love my PS3. It is really good with Blu-Ray movies and the two video games I've bought so far have been amazing.

I only want to warn you that the PS3 does NOT come with an HDMI CABLE. If you want the best picture, you need an HDMI cable. This is about another [...]and another trip to the store, if you're like me.

Also, if you have a surround sound with a fiber optic port, you'll want to get a fiber optic cable for the audio. This is way better sound as well. The fiber optic cable will run you about [...].

5 out of 5 stars All in one super system   December 1, 2008

I have had my PS3 since it first came out and love it. The PS3 gets constant updates for the firmware automatically via the internet and always works with the latest blu ray movies. Mine still works from the day I bought it with no problems!!!

You can surf the net, watch dvds, blu-rays, and play PS3 games with this thing, all for under $400. This is a steal. The PS3 has one of the best audio out puts out there for a Blu Ray player.

Alot of special bundle deals on Amazon.com right now that make this even more affordable. Don't pass up on the PS3 this holiday, there are too many great games, and too many great Blu ray movies coming out that you need to view on your HD TV!!! Once you do Blu, you don't go back!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Sony's "Greatest Thing Ever"   November 30, 2008

I probably shouldn't have written this review because I won't tell you anything that you can't read below but I just received my system a few days ago and I am so excited I feel, like Ron Burgundy, like shouting my love from a mountain-top.

I was never big on video games (exceptions: Grand Theft Auto; Bioshock; Handful of others) and I can't tell you how this system compares to other video game consoles (although I think all will agree that the games on this system look the best by far). All I can tell you is that GTA and CoD and every other game I've played on this system looks great and is tremendous fun. The blu-rays look amazing, the blu-ray's upward conversion makes your old dvds look fantastic and if you upgrade to 320 or 500 (as I did) GB, it's basically a fully functioning computer as well (web browsing could be more user-friendly, but playing movies, music, and storing photos are mostly what people are going to use this thing for).

So... computer, blu-ray player, cd player, video game console for $400 (+ your upgrades, I probably spent another $100 with $80 going to the hard drive upgrade). It's basically the greatest thing ever made (along with the iPod and Kindle). Just add TV.

One word of advice: Make sure you buy the 5400 rpm hard drives when you upgrade (and you'll likely want to).
