Gameplay
Built around the theme of Jedi cooperation during the battles and events of the Clone Wars, in Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance players must not only master the force individually, but also maximize and focus its power as you join with another Jedi to fight as a unit. The makeup of your Jedi pairings is entirely up to you. Go with a team of padawans, a team of master Jedi, or the usual master and student team. Playable Jedi include, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, and Kit Fisto. Each of the available Jedi possess a varied level of skill with Force abilities, but each also possess unique character moves and combat skills which will be useful in specific situations, allowing for maximum replay value as you explore each character combination. In addition, using specific Jedi combinations will unlock special attacks in abilities.

All player actions in Jedi Alliance are performed via an innovative stylus-based input system. Through this, controlling your Jedi's movement and lightsaber combat has never felt more immersive. Moving and picking up items is as simple as tapping the screen with your stylus, or a combination of tapping and sliding the stylus to perform combos, while lightsaber combat works as fast as you can tap. Additional gameplay also consists of a series of mini-games both related to puzzle-solving and lightsaber and force combat.

New Chapter, New Villains
Although set within context of the events of Episode II and Episode III, the original story of Jedi Alliance allows for the emergence of a set of villains new to most Star Wars fans, the Nightsisters. Not new to the overall Star Wars universe, the Nightsisters have been alluded to in many of the past Star Wars novels and a few of the games, but Jedi Alliance gives fans and players alike their best view of them to date.

The Nightsisters are a coven of 'Force witches' aligned with the Dark Side, but not owing allegiance to the Emperor. Legend has it that they were taught the ways of the Force in the ancient past by a renegade Jedi. An outcast and thus unhampered by the decisions of the Jedi council, this Jedi created an Amazon-like society which ruled its far away homeworld with an iron fist in isolation. Although their close contact with the Dark Side gives the Nightsisters an appearance very similar to the Sith, they are not part of the same sect. In fact, as the events of Jedi Alliance unravel, it becomes clear that although they are a danger to the Jedi they may pose just as much of a threat to the growing power if the Emperor.

3 out of 5 stars Very difficult game for some   December 31, 2008

My 8 year old son received this game for xmas. For now the game is too hard for him to play and it sits in his DS case. However, I played it (very poorly), but was amazed at the graphics and details.

4 out of 5 stars A fun, and sadly short, Star Wars excursion   December 29, 2008

The first thing you'll notice when you fire up Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance for the DS is that the game boasts some impressive production values in terms of graphics and sound. The next thing you'll notice is that the amazingly simple touch-screen based controls make the game all the more fun and enjoyable. Selecting from a roster of Jedi's from the animated Clone Wars series including Obi-Wan, Anakin, Mace Windu, and more; Jedi Alliance pits you against adversaries such as Count Dooku, General Grievous, and the Separatist Army as the storyline takes place between Episodes II and III. The game boasts some fluid animation effects as you take on hordes of enemies, and there's some surprisingly detailed environments as well that really show off what the DS can do graphically. The game also boasts some great voice work and sound effects as well, with some moments of a dynamic musical score making things all the sweeter in the audio department. While the combat is the high point of Jedi Alliance, the game isn't without its flaws. Exploration and puzzle elements aren't nearly as fun as the combat elements of the game, and as a whole, the single-player mode is too short. However, there's plenty of unlockable extras to be uncovered, and the game's impressive production values more than make it worth checking out. All in all, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance for the DS is definitely worth your time if you're a Star Wars fan or just like good action games, and even if The Clone Wars series isn't your thing, you'll find some definite enjoyment here.

5 out of 5 stars Exciting and interesting game!   December 29, 2008
I received this for a Christmas gift. When I started playing it, the beginning video was a little long, but interesting. When the game actually started, I liked it more. You have to pay attention to what you are doing because it moves quickly.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game!   December 27, 2008

This is an excellent game with good graphics and a great storyline! The lightsaber battles are cool and the minigames are fun. This is a story exclusive to the DS. I won't give away the story, but I will say that there are lots of new enemies. One of the fun aspects of the game is that you get to pick the Jedi to play as and a Jedi to help you. You can pick from Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Overall, this is a great buy!

2 out of 5 stars Not so much fun for my son   December 26, 2008

He doesn't play it very much because of the level of difficulty. He's a huge Star Wars fan, so he was thrilled when he received it. He's almost 7, so it may be better for children a little older.
