Fun but no motor storm November 23, 2008 Sushi (New York) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
the graphics are great, but not as good as motor storm. would like to see the quads break apart when crashing. otherwise, a good race game either competing with other computer generated racers (you cant have more than one player), or with other on-liners. A shame, as we like to play with friends.
There are different levels that you can proceed and different vehicles that you can race in. The pluses for playing this game are the graphics and the interesting race course.
Way to Go Disney! November 21, 2008 Chicago Gal (Chicago Area) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hard to believe this is a Disney Game. It is very well made for the tween, teen and adult player. Good graphics and a lot of fun to play. Has a really good tutorial that is also fun and interactive. Great way to start. This race will keep you going for many hours of addictive play.
Not solid, but fun November 20, 2008 Stephen Hall (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pure seems to be an unpolished released, for the PS3. It has some fun and exciting gameplay, but it just didn't feel complete or finely tuned. I'd recommend renting this title, or waiting for used prices to come down. For many, it is probably not worth new retail pricing.
It does look gorgeous with the PS3's strong graphics on a large television. You can certainly have a blast for a while. However, after some time it's a question of what next, or some of the unfinished elements makes it feel limited.
Furthermore, don't look forward to flying high through the great graphics around the world with friends. It is a one player game, which is a significant disappointment. Overall, this Disney release again is a lot of fun, but the limitations keep pulling me from giving it a hardier recommendation. It could have earned 4/5, but it's an enjoyable 3/5.
One of the best "racing games" I've played November 20, 2008 Pen Name (Fairbanks, Alaska) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't really care at all about ATVs. I've never ridden one and don't have that much of an interest too. I also don't enjoy racing games like Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit or Gran Turismo. That aside, Pure is a pretty fun and entertaining game. The main premise of the game is to do tricks. This is another area of games that I really despise, because usually the best tricks involve ridiculously complicated control combinations that my 30-year old hands are not possible of executing. Pure's trick combinations are very easy to pull off though, and don't require memorizing difficult button combinations. In the simplest form, it involves pushing a button and a control pad direction. I was able to pull off some really cool-looking tricks without reading any instructions, and spent a good 4 hours doing so before deciding to learn some more difficult maneuvers.
Some of the main things to do in Pure:
1. World Tour - This is the standard racing tour that all of these games have. For the most fun, I would suggest newcomers start here and complete it before moving on to the other two events below. One of the fun parts of this is that you start out with weak ATVs, and get more options and better parts as you progress, allowing you to fully customize your ATV. 2. Racing - This is where I spent most of my time with the game. Races are a combination of speed and tricks. You'll need to accomplish a lot of tricks to gain speed, and you need a lot of speed to get access to the best tricks. 3. Sprints - As the name implies, these are short races on a track. These are a little too fast-paced for me and I had difficulty pulling off tricks and still finishing the race in a respectable time. 4. Trial Mode - Even though the tricks can be fun, the landscapes gave me the most enjoyment in the game. I really like exploring in games, and the landscape detail in Pure is gorgeous. I actually spent most of my time in this game just checking out the detail in my environment rather than focusing on the race. This is why Trial Mode is so great in the game. A lot of racing games look like they have enormous backgrounds, they restrict you to a specific track through the use of fences, bales, etc. or even more annoying, you can only explore the course during a race, which gives you about 2 minutes to look around. In Trial Mode, you can do whatever you want and spend as much time as you want on a course. This is a great feature.
Hooked!! November 20, 2008 Jennifer (MN, USA) I was skeptical about Pure at first. Disney? Making a racer? I've never been a huge fan of racers, other than the cutesy variety such as Mario Kart. I did spend a lot of time with Gran Turismo as well, thanks to all the customization options.
And that's where Pure got me. With over 60,000 possibilities for building your ride and countless unlockables, I was quite pleased. Top it off with breathtaking graphics and you've got lots of fun to be had. I had to fight my husband for my turn playing! We are primarily Wii fans and are fairly new to the PS3 arena, but as we all know, PS3's graphics are far superior and extremely realistic. Pure does an awesome job of showcasing PS3's hardware. It's just a beautiful game.
As with any racer, I did start to lose interest after 15+ hours of play but with all the fun my family has had with this game, I'd say it was absolutely worth every penny. Being totally out of my niche, I was suprised how Pure hooked me right from the start. I also hugely appreciated that the game was entirely appropriate for my son to play and watch, unlike some of the "late night" games we own that I only allow my husband to play when the little one is in bed for the night. Fun for the whole family!
