Product Description For 200 years, Vault 101, a fallout shelter, has served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants. Yet one morning, you awake to find that your father has left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father. Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) that combines the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda.

Storing XBox360 games on your hard drive!!! December 3, 2008 AJ (Jamaica, West Indies) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ditto to all the good reviews. But I would like to counter the statement that game saves are slow. If you take the time to copy the XBox 360 Game to your XBox 360 hard drive, then startup, save, and load times are incredible!
Copying the game to the drive takes time, but it makes sense for any game that you plan to play for any length of time, especially RPG's. The only caveat is that you must still have the game disk in your XBox to play the game.
Great Game TERRIBLE Software December 3, 2008 M. Hysell (Maineville, OH) OK, let me start by saying this is a GREAT RPG game. You start from birth and get to customize your character to your hearts content. You also get to roam the large world freely and play in a truly non linear fashion all of which makes for a great game. There is 1 MAJOR problem with this game and it's the glitches it contains. Professional reviewers are unable to mention them as they receive pre-release copies which frequently have bugs but generally they are fixed prior to retail released. Bethesda did NOT fix some glitches prior to release that aren't simple annoyances but actually cause you to be unable to progress any further in the game. In discussing the issue with Bethesda, they are aware of these game stopping issues but basically aren't in any hurry to fix those and instead opt to wait until they can fix every minor annoyance in 1 huge patch. While every game has some level of glitches, fixing glitches that stop the game completely should be a HUGE priority in my opinion. I am sure that once a patch is released the game will function correctly and there are certainly many people who don't have any issues with the game but you are rolling the dice. This isn't a short game so you could literally have 40 hours of play in and get stopped only to be told to "start over". The gameplay is great though, if you like RPGs you'll love this game. It's somewhat of a bleak/depressing environment (post nuclear world) but that's the idea. The combat system is a lot of fun too, allowing you to target specific areas of an enemy. You can only level up to level 20 at that point you can progress no further in terms of character development, which is somewhat of a bummer but assuming you don't run into the game ending freezes that prevent you from playing the main story line, you'd probably only go through 20 levels anyway. Great game but everyone should be aware PRIOR to purchase that there are potential glitches that keep you from playing the main story line and there's no timeline from Bethesda in terms of when a patch will be released. May want to purchase another game and get this diamond in the rough after they polish it a bit!

My Fallout 3 CD was scratched all to hell and won't even play in my X-Box 360. I doubt I'll be buying another game/DVD from Amazon.
You can tell Bethesda Made December 2, 2008 David Swearengin (Vivian, Louisiana) you can tell Bethesda Made it, Lots of side quests, you can almost completely forget about the main guest line, as i did for over 50 hours on my second play through, plus you can skip ahead in the main quest, if you know where to find certain objects, i completely skipped the GNR quest.
as with Bethesda Elder Scrolls - Oblivion, There as been once or twice that it as froze on me, but that's remedied by keeping only a few side quest open at a time, for me anyways..
over all, the game is the best i have played all year, cant wait for a few expansions for Fallout 3.
pretty much what i expected November 30, 2008 Marcus Roof 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
PROS - Fun game - VATS is something new for gaming. - Open world with a lot to do (more than almost any other non-Bethesda game). - Bethesda is a top developer. Todd Howard seems to be a great guy. - A lot more voice acting than in prior Bethesda releases. - Controls. Bethesda has the greatest view/camera system in the industry in my opinion. Simply click a button and you're in 1st person, click again you're in 3rd person -- all games should do this in my opinion -- it should be standard.
NEUTRAL - Bobblehead. meh. - Far less glitching and bugs than Oblivion. Oblivion had far fewer than Morrowind. Thus Bethesda is getting better and better at debugging.
CONS - Pip-Boy is a poorly designed battery killer. - Graphics and animation have unfortunately not been improved since the time of Oblivion. This was a key disappointment to me. I know everything is supposed to look run-down and devastated, but that doesn't mean it has to look graphically mediocre.
IS THIS AN IMPROVEMENT OVER OBLIVION? - Not for me no.
IS THIS JUST OBLIVION WITH GUNS? - Some will so no, some say yes. I say YES. It's little more than a re-skinned Oblivion with guns + VATS...and to that I say "fine by me".
WHAT VERSION OF WHAT PLATFORM TO GET? - PC/360 get DLC so stick with those. PC if you prefer mouse. I prefer joystick, so 360 for me. Definitely do NOT buy the Amazon Exclusive Edition. Sold out by now, but if you see it via Amazon Marketplace sellers or on Ebay, know that the Pip-Boy is going to be a paperweight.
