The second season of Naruto continues as the next phase of the Chunin exams begins: individual combat among the surviving candidates. Kakashi-sensei seals the curse mark Orochimaru set on Sasuke's neck, but its effect on the talented young ninja remains uncertain. Naruto beats his opponent using decidedly unconventional means: only everyone's favorite knucklehead could turn an attack of flatulence into a jutsu. As the matches progress, the focus shifts from Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to the secondary characters Hinata and Rock Lee. The offspring of a great ninja clan, Hinata seems too timid to live up to the family tradition of violence, but she fights valiantly against her cousin Neiji. Rock Lee has no talent for the magical jutsu the other students employ, so he's trained himself mercilessly in physical techniques. He's pitted against Gara, the icy trainee who fights with clouds of enchanted sand. Lee and Hinata overtax their resources but demonstrate true ninja spirit--and win the respect of Naruto and Sakura. The struggles of the secondary characters add some emotional depth to the inevitably repetitious fight scenes. The season ends on multiple cliffhangers, with Lee and Sasuke in the hospital and Naruto beginning a grueling training regimen with a new sensei to prepare for the final Chunin combat. (Rated T+ Older Teen; suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, toilet humor) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars for the kids   September 20, 2008
J. Farrell (Tawas City Michigan)
The series allows me time to sit with my kids and watch something together. not easy to do as they are getting into the teen years

5 out of 5 stars Good Deal   September 7, 2008
Chima (Oak Grove, MN)
It cost a lot less to order the DVD set from Amazon then from the stores. My son was very excited to get such a great deal and get it so fast.

4 out of 5 stars Chunnin Exam pt. 2.5: Shonen Tournament   July 20, 2008
Don Kangol (Wilmington, NC USA)
It seems every shonen series has to have a tournament, going all the way back to the budokais of the original Dragonball (Dragon Ball - Tien Shinhan Saga Set) and Naruto is definitely no exception. This box set picks up during the preliminaries of the final round: there are too many people and now everyone has to fight an opponent to advance and to narrow the field.

The fourth box set doesn't stray from the designs of the first three, and for me that is a good thing. Lots of episodes in a pretty box is good enough. Once again I can only speak for the regular box sets, not the limited edition ones with the toys.

This group of episodes basically takes Sasuke out of the fold for awhile after his fight and minimizes Naruto quite a bit, though his fight does have one of the more memorable endings. Instead, we are treated to a pretty entertainings series of matches between secondary characters.

This comes with its pluses and minuses, there are many characters getting a turn at the spotlight and not all of them are entertaining. The fight between Sakura and Ino is a particularly bad, drawn out low point. Sakura had her turn in the spotlight protecting Naruto and Sasuke in the last disc (Naruto Uncut Boxed Set, Volume 3), and that turned out decent. But this time it is way too boring and drawn out.

On the positive side, you get a good amount of background on characters like Gaara, Rock Lee, Neji & Hinata. And see one of my favorite characters, Shikamaru, start to show his brilliance. Probably the biggest highlight of the disc is the battle between Rock Lee and Gaara, which shows that the action in this series can be just as great as any out there. Overall, this disc is still a very good one, and holds up the standards of the previous discs. I definitely recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Why does the second disc freeze on fourth episode?   July 1, 2008
Romance Reader (Pounding Mill, VA)
I have exchanged this boxed set two times and tommorrow I am going to another Walmart and see if they have one that does not freeze up! Man I go to my walmart like everyday seeing as I live like a mile away and I know that there were 4 DVDs of Naruto Uncut Boxed Set 4 and I have tried three so apparently someone else has tried the last one and I just wonder if they had a defective disc also I mean I had three in a row! So uh I am a litte doubtful that this Walmart that I am going to tommorrow will have any good ones I mean if one walmart gets these DVD's won't another walmart which is like 40 minutes away get the same DVD's? I have tried to find out a way to replace the second disc since it is the only one giving me problems but I have never had this happen before so I am clueless, oh and those three dvds they all freeze at exactly the same spot so I am wondering if my walmart should recall those since there is so much of that going around ( that is my walmart will even do it, honestly you try to tell them that all of these dvds are defective and they look at you like huh? and then tell you uh you know that you can't get a refund right? and I did not even ask for a refund all I want is for this DVD to work like how I bought it ya know new!

Oh I guess I better review the dvd huh lol! Anyway if ever I can find a dvd that works perfectly this would definitley get 5 stars! I love Naruto it is funny, it has very intresting characters and a cool storyline I mean it has everything going for it. I really liked Hinata's and Neji's match( although I could not watch it, but I have seen it before) And my fav character would have to be Gaara, he is just so evil that he is good lol! I know that makes no sense but well when everyone thinks that Kankuro had his neck broke by his opponent Gaara is like "Whats the big deal" now the reason it is so evil that he says this is because Kankuro is his brother! Really good dvd( if you have one that does not freeze) Heres to hoping I find a good one (within 90 days!)

5 out of 5 stars Rock Lee is the shiznit   June 10, 2008
E. Logemann (Rockford IL)
holy crap, this is the one with the battle between Rock Lee and Gaara!!!! Lee unloads a serious can of whoop*** on this guy, he loses in the end but for sure if he was fighting anyone else but Gaara it would have been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for them. in conclusion Naruto is the best anime action series since DBZ and Rock Lee is the freakin' show stopper in this volume. Pick it up for sure.
